A history of helping

Helping just one person solve their health or financial concern is a win. It is a win for that individual person and the reason our foundation has existed all these years."
Jon Westbrook, long time board member
Our Story
Mallory Taylor Hospital came into existence during the great depression of the 1930's. The hospital was located on Highway 146 in La Grange and served Oldham and surrounding counties for close to half a century. Many folks were made better and many babies were born there.
In the 1980's the county gained a more modern hospital and Mallory Taylor Memorial hospital was closed. As the 80's came to a close, a foundation was created from the funds generated by this closing.
Court orders brought various community leaders together to establish bylaws and a board of directors to safeguard the funds and to continue helping residents of Oldham County by paying medical bills when possible for indigent residents with little means to pay outstanding bills.
$583,713.83
is the foundation corpus
Funds in excess of this amount are distributed for the stated purpose of the foundation. Investments increase our funds above the corpus amount as well as grants received from other local entities which know the work of our foundation.
No funds are received from government agencies. We are a non-profit foundation with 501(c)(3) status and we file our 990 Private Foundation tax return each spring by May 15 which is available for public inspection at any time.
32 years
The board of directors has met with an Executive Director for over three decades now to review the needs of hundreds of clients. We have helped pay for medical bills in the thousands over those 30-plus years.
During these years, the medical industry has changed greatly as well as the availability of insurance for those in need. As the world around us changes, our board of directors is working to change how our foundation works with others in our community.
Nine plus One
Our board of directors is typically made up of nine local community leaders who are also residents of Oldham County. Some of our board members have served over 25 years or more. The foundation has an Executive Director which oversees the day-to-day operations of the foundation.
The board typically meets quarterly to discuss the operations of the foundation.
Our Mission
In 2025, our mission is changing as the health care world and health insurance options change around us. For close to thirty years our foundation focused on helping pay medical bills for those who could not pay. As the times changed, it has become harder for our foundation to work with others in the same manner we started so many years ago.
Privacy regulations and the simple growth of the health care industry has changed how our relationships can exist to help others.
We are in the process of changing our mission... expanding how our foundation can be of service to our community. It is an exciting time for our board of directors and Executive Director to leverage our limited financial resources to benefit the most folks in Oldham County.

Success Stories
Your hospital stay is over. Time to head home and you are so ready to be back in the comfort of your own surroundings. But... transportation is an issue. You have no means or person to call so an ambulance takes you home. Not long after, the bill comes for that ride. You do not have the money to pay for this simple ride home. Through connections and relationships, Mallory Taylor Foundation finds out. We help pay this bill.
In other instances, we pay for doctor bills or X-ray and MRI charges.
Again, success can be a payment of a few thousand dollars or as little as $49 to help someone get prescription eyeglasses.
